Africa-Press – Lesotho. Liverpool’s summer spending spree had pushed Federico Chiesa out of the initial Champions League squad, but fate has given him a second chance.
Following Giovanni Leoni’s serious injury that will sideline the young defender for a year, Arne Slot confirmed the Italian winger is set to be added to the list for the group stage.
The Dutch coach admitted the process is already underway, noting UEFA regulations allow a long-term injured player to be replaced. “If I’m well informed, when a player is out for more than two months, we can register another. That’s the case with Leoni, and Chiesa is the logical option,” he said.
Liverpool later confirmed the move on social media, making the former Juventus star an unexpected reinforcement for the European campaign.
