After months of tension, the situation exploded when FIFPRO accused FIFA of ignoring players’ rights, particularly in light of the overloaded calendar and the controversial expanded Club World Cup. In response, FIFA issued a fierce statement accusing FIFPRO of favoring “media theatrics” and personal agendas over real reforms, dismissing their criticisms as “blackmail” aimed at preserving internal power.
