Africa-Press – Lesotho. Federation of Lesotho Rugby (FLR) General Secretary (SG) Litšitso Motšeremeli says the federation is ready to launch the tag rugby sport as soon as sporting activities resume.

Unlike with normal rugby, Motšeremeli says tag rugby is a non-contact game meaning they will still be able to adhere to precautionary protocols as per the World Health Organization (WHO), to curb

the spread of the covid-19 pandemic. He said the idea of tag rugby came after FRL realized that there is a high possibility that the league season may be cut

short therefore, opting for tag rugby for the sake of players and match officials. A ban on all sporting activities was imposed in March prior to a nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Since March Motšeremeli says the organization continues to adhere to all precautionary measures put in place to combat covid-19. The federation hosts meetings using the cyber platform- zoom application and, players are given outlines

to follow for individual training sessions. The federation has also distributed food parcels to its 120 players in the Maseru district an, plans to do the same in

Thaba-Tseka and Butha-Buthe districts where rugby associations are already launched. The federation urges its players to always comply with WHO recommendations on combating the spread of covid-19 pandemic.

FLR started was registered in 2012 wherein rugby as a sport was launched officially in Lesotho in the same year and registered with the Lesotho Sport Recreation Commission (LSRC), Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC), Rugby Africa and now in the process of registering with World Rugby.
