Africa-Press – Lesotho. Namibia’s women’s football continues to reach new heights as two of its former national team stars have officially transitioned into continental leadership roles under the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Former Brave Gladiators goalkeeper Meriam Shinda and ex-national team captain and defender Queen Manga are currently in Egypt attending their first CAF Match Commissioners induction workshop. Their selection marks a significant milestone not only in their personal careers but also in the development of women’s football in Namibia.

The CAF Match Commissioner role is vital in ensuring that matches across the continent are conducted professionally, fairly, and in line with CAF regulations. Having former players step into such roles brings valuable on-field experience into football governance and administration.

Speaking from the workshop, Queen Manga expressed pride in representing Namibia at this level, saying,“It is an honour to continue serving football beyond my playing days and to contribute to the growth of the game across Africa.”

Their appointment has also been widely praised at home, with recognition given to the Namibia Football Association(NFA) Executive Council for identifying and supporting former players in transitioning into influential roles within the sport.

This achievement highlights a growing pathway for retired athletes, especially women, to remain actively involved in football while shaping its future. It also reinforces Namibia’s commitment to developing leadership within the game, both on and off the pitch.

According to CAF, The role of the Match Commissioner remains central to the successful organisation and management of CAF fixtures, ensuring that matches are conducted in full accordance with CAF regulations and international football standards.

Their responsibilities include supervising overall match organisation, ensuring compliance with competition regulations, coordinating with stadium authorities and local organising structures, and overseeing the correct implementation of operational procedures.

Match Commissioners also play an important role in safeguarding the integrity of the match environment, including security arrangements, team arrival protocols, media operations, and the smooth functioning of the referee team, VAR room and technical staff.
