Africa-Press – Lesotho. French Ambassador to Lesotho and South Africa His Excellency Christophe Farnaud will undertake field visits to global fund Unitaid supported project sites in Maseru today.
Unitaid is a global health initiative that is working with partners to end the world’s tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS, malaria and hepatitis C epidemics.
The ambassador will pay a courtesy call to The Right Honorable Prime Minister Dr Motsoahae Thomas Thabane and also meet with the Honorable Minister of Health (MoH) Nkaku Kabi who
will accompany the ambassador during site visit in the industrial area in Maseru to see mobile clinics offering the comprehensive TB, HIV and primary health
care services to factory workers. According to the press release by the Ministry of Health this week these six mobile clinics the ambassador will visit are offering
services to factory workers in Maseru and Maputsoe. This project is part of the ministry’s support from the global fund and is implemented by Elizabeth Glazer
Pediatric Foundation (EGPAF) and Phelisanang Bopheng. “After seeing the mobile clinics the ambassador will proceed to Likotsi filter clinic in Maseru to visit Unitaid and EGPAF project site for
point early diagnosis and the cap TB. The Goal of UNITAID project is to increase the number of HIV-Positive infants whose HIV status is known and facilitate early Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) initiation for these
children in Lesotho,” read the statement. The regional health counselor of health at the French embassy in South Africa, Dr Genevieve Nguyen also arrived in Lesotho yesterday ahead
of the French ambassador’s visit to Lesotho and visited numerous global fund supported projects sites in Maseru. These projects are said to include Multi-Drug-Resistant
Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) implemented partners in health (PIH) Family medicine and mentorship for district health managers project, implemented by Lesotho Boston Health
Alliance (LeBoHA) and Baylor college of medicine children’s foundation Lesotho which is implementing a project supporting prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTC) and adolescents, girls and young women program.
