Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has spoken out strongly following the racist abuse suffered by Christopher Antwi-Adjei during Schalke 04’s German Cup clash against FC Lokomotive Leipzig.
In a powerful statement with the heading read as follow, WE STAND WITH CHRISTOPHER ANTWI-ADJEI, the GFA expressed both sadness and solidarity with the 30-year-old Ghana international, condemning the incident as a stain on the game.
“Ghana and the entire football world watched in sadness as our brother, Christopher Antwi-Adjei, was subjected to racial abuse during Schalke 04’s German Cup tie against FC Lokomotive Leipzig. Racism is evil. It has no place in football. It has no place in society,” the statement read.
The GFA praised Antwi-Adjei for showing resilience in the face of hate, stressing that his dignity and character stood taller than the ignorance he was forced to endure.
“Christopher showed incredible strength in the face of hate — reminding us all that dignity and character will always rise above ignorance. As the Ghana Football Association, we stand firmly with him. We echo his courage, and we demand a game where every player is respected, no matter their colour, race, or origin.”
The Association reiterated its commitment to fighting discrimination at every level of the game, calling for global unity against racism.
“Football is about unity. Football is about love. Football is for all of us. Let’s raise our voices together: NO TO RACISM. YES TO EQUALITY.”
The GFA’s statement comes as support continues to pour in from across the football community, with calls for tougher sanctions against perpetrators of racist abuse.
