MASERU – Feb, 06. The Government of Lesotho and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Wednesday signed the 2026 Annual Work Plans, jointly developed to advance the implementation of the UNICEF Country Programme Strategy for 2024–2028.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, UNICEF Lesotho Country Representative, Mr. Deepak Bhaskaran, said the agreement confirms a shared commitment and reaffirms UNICEF’s readiness to strengthen its partnership with the Government of Lesotho to ensure that every Mosotho child reaches their full potential.

Mr. Bhaskaran noted that the signing reflects renewed unity and commitment to aligning the Annual Work Plans with national priorities, with the objective of providing every Mosotho child with an opportunity for a positive and productive life.

He added that UNICEF will continue to support the government in addressing persistent challenges affecting children, including climate change, which he said requires smarter planning and sustainable financing to ensure that limited resources yield meaningful results, and that no child is left behind.

Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Ms. Nthoateng Lebona, expressed appreciation for UNICEF’s continued support in advancing child welfare in Lesotho.

However, she emphasized the need for broader stakeholder engagement and consultations to effectively address ongoing challenges facing children in the country, particularly malnutrition and stunting.

The event brought together key stakeholders from various government ministries and departments, underscoring a shared commitment to improving the lives of Basotho children.
