Africa-Press – Lesotho. The wife of the late Maaparankoe Mahao, ‘Mamphanya Mahao says the Government of Lesotho succumbed to pressure when they established the Phumaphi Commission of Inquiry in order to facilitate private investigations into the death of her husband.
This she said during cross-examination by Advocate Letuka Molati in a case in which nine members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) including Retired Army Commander Lieutenant General Tlali Kamoli are charged with the murder of the deceased.
She stated that there was pressure from the Mahao Family which was assisted by the international community, local civic organisations and the Southern African Development Community (SADC). She pointed out that the government even frustrated the inquiry of the Commission.
The witness pointed out that the same government rejected the report from the Commission adding that they removed some of its contents when they eventually took it.
Mrs. Mahao said the Prime Minister made it public that the SADC decisions will never see the light of the day adding that they were not compulsory.
