Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Hon. Keketso Sello has revealed the government’s intention to sell agricultural inputs (fertilizers and seeds)
wheat and peas at 60 percent discount in preparations of winter cropping. He said the purchase of seeds commenced from April 7, saying they are available at
government warehouses from Butha-Buthe to Quthing. The winter crops includes wheat and peas. On summer cropping, the Minister said it was not successful because of the heavy rains
which let to most farmers not weeding on time because of wet lands. He encouraged farmers to plant on time so that they harvest wheat in October. The minister advised
farmers to prepare for winter cropping on time by cultivating the land and purchasing fertilizers and seeds on time. Farmers will buy these items directly from
the warehouse and indicate their fields’ size and their respective districts at agriculture offices. This information will help the ministry decide on the
allocation of the automatic vertical conveyor Reaper when it is time to harvest. Currently the government has 13 machines that will help farmers during harvesting.
