Africa-Press – Lesotho. Hands of Life (HoL) Cycling organisation will host 35km Independence youth cycling race that is set to take place at Mafeteng in October. HoL Cycling Director Tšepang Nkhabu explained to Informative Sport that their
organisation is a program that uses cycling as the modality to empower leadership skills in youth, so that they can be pioneers, innovators and entrepreneurial in developing communities, and understanding their roles as
youth. “The main objective of this tournament is to celebrate Lesotho independence through cycling, the tournament is open to every youth who would like to participate, moreover, cyclist with bikes are expected to register with
M120 while registration for cyclist without bikes will be M150 as they will be using organisation’s bikes, the registration fee will be used to pay for race
preparations expenditures. Collected money for registration will help our youth centre which consists of more than 75 youth whom we assist with food, school
fees and other essential needs,” explained Nkhabu. He mentioned that the race will start from HoL premises to Tšakholo and back to the starting point, HoL. He added that the cyclists will
have to go for the induction training first; where they will learn how to use the gear, treating other road users with care. Also how to turn properly as
well as a highlight on the road rules and symbols in order to ensure a safe, successful race. “Cycling is one of the sport code that improves health and
fitness so we are expecting to see more youth cyclists competing in this independence tournament, it is true that we are still under the devastating times of Covid-19, therefore the number of cyclists that will be allowed to go
through this race will be in line with the Covid-19 regulations that will be exercised by that time,” he related. Nkhabu revealed that so far the confirmed sponsor for this
race is Lesotho Red Cross Society which will supplier with Covid-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). He said there will be prizes for the winners even
through things have not yet been finalised as some of the companies have not finalised their sponsorship plan. “We are hoping for donations of bicycles however. Apart from that, all other cyclists will be awarded participation certificates,” Nkhabu disclosed
