Africa-Press – Lesotho. Kutlong Centre for Hearing Founder and Hearing Instruments Specialist Khotso Kebise has stated that hearing impairment is one of the factors that exacerbates mental
health illness. Kebise saidthis in an interview with Informative Newspaper on Wednesday. He said hearing health is one of the most unaddressed health issues not only in Lesotho but worldwide due
to few hearing healthcare providers. He said the ignorance around this health challenge has rendered the patients vulnerable to a number of mental health
conditions due to inability to participate in daily basic communication. He mentioned that depression is most common among people with hearing impairment
which usually result in loss of memory among the elderly with hearing loss and low brain capacity or capability among younger generations and children.
“People with ear and hearing complications are the most sidelined people amongst all disabilities; some children are even locked up by parents at home.
The elderly usually isolate themselves from family members and community due to barriers caused by hearing loss,” he stated. Kutlong Centre For Hearing is a hearing facility that aims to address problems
surrounding ear and hearing health care in Lesotho by meeting the needs of quality hearing and healing services in Lesotho. “With outmost competence we provide highly sophisticated
diagnostic hearing tests for young children and adults,” Kebise informed. He added that they are for the idea that no child should be left behind because of
hearing impairment, saying all children deserve quality education and a bright future. In an effort to help the patients gain back their hearing capabilities,
he said the facility provides the highest quality of hearing tests and hearing aids fittings for children. “Hearing aids are medical devices with absolutely
no side effects. Patient may feel uncomfortable or irritated if they have been misfit or if they are not using the gadget per instructions. This is why I work very closely with my patients to ensure they are correctly wearing their hearing aids,” he said
