Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Deputy Speaker in the Parliament of Lesotho Ms. Tsepang Tsíta-Mosena says the battle against HIV and AIDS is not yet won hence the need for all not back on the thought that the battle is over.

Ms. Tsíta-Mosena made the remarks during World AIDS Day commemoration held at Maphate Stadium on Thursday where she said through National AIDS Commission together with other stakeholders have played a major role in reduction of new infections though there are challenges prevailing

She highlighted that there young people who still do not have access to health services including young girls and women.

She mentioned that young girls and women are the major victims of infection of HIV and prone to AIDS, calling to all to ensure protection of the victims in all forms.

Whilst at it she indicated that young girls are also unable to attend school due to shortage of dignitary essentials while it also interrupts lives and deprives them their rights.

Acting as Minister of Health, Minister of Home Affairs Mr. Lebona Lephema expressed appreciation to the Mafeteng District Health Management Team and all health workers in the district, saying their continued dedication often under challenging circumstances remain a cornerstone of the progress made.

He acknowledged the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) for its outstanding support as it has been an unwavering ally in Lesotho’s HIV response and their contributions are visible in clinics, communities, and National outcomes, including their contribution to providing quality HIV testing, treatment, prevention, education and community support has strengthened the health system and expanded access to services for thousands of Basotho.

The Minister reminded that AHF initially formed a partnership with the Lesotho Mounted Police Service which eventually cut cross numerous groups, saying the collaboration responded to a fundamental need to protect health and wellbeing of police officers who serve on the frontlines of safety and security.

On the other hand the AHF Country Director Ms. Nthoesele Letoao said the her organisation is proud to stand in Mafeteng and across the nation as a partner committed to health, dignity, and hope indicating that their 10 years of service in Lesotho they have worked hand in hand with the Ministry of Health , Lesotho Mounted Police Service, District Health Management Team, Community Leaders, Health Workers and partners from many sectors to deliver HIV prevention, testing, treatment and community support.
