HOPE party blasts government

Africa-Press – Lesotho. The newly formed HOPE political party today released a statement criticised the government for allowing huge numbers of people to gather at yesterday’s event where, the Democratic Congress (DC), which is part of the governing coalition, welcomed some new members who defected from the Alliance for Democrats (AD).

In their statement, HOPE said it was shocked by yesterday’s event where DC held a huge celebration welcoming some new members with people gathering in large numbers in this era of Covid-19.

HOPE said after the country moved to the blue colour, NACOSEC explained that political gatherings were still prohibited but only yesterday DC which is part of the governing coalition held a huge gathering, contrary to NACOSEC regulations.

The party said it was shameful that a lot of Basotho wearing DC party colours were seen in the government cars rejoicing while those cars were hired to serve Basotho as a nation and not a particular political party.

“It was such a shameful thing to see ministry of home affairs cars being used to other people’s advantage in Maseru town while they are intended to help Basotho.

Some even went as far appearing on windows and misusing these cars, something which is intolerable and disrespectful,” the statement read. HOPE is one of many parties that continue to mushroom in Lesotho as the 2022 polls draw closer. Led by ’Machabana Lemphane Letsie, it one the very few parties in Lesotho led by women.
