This is according to the statement released by the LRCS this week. With the total injection of M11.9 million, M2.5 million will be directed to RCCE activities
and M9.4 million will go towards WASH initiatives. “The Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) project is aimed at strengthening community-level risk communication, coordination structures and critical WASH
services and supplies to respond to and control COVID-19 infections in six districts,” reads LRCS statement in pertinent part. The beneficiary districts are: Maseru, Qacha’s Nek, Leribe, Mafeteng, Mokhotlong and Quthing.
The LRCS said the WASH project “aims to improve hygiene infrastructure and behavior in schools”. The project will be rolled out at schools in Qacha’s Nek, Thaba-Tseka, Mokhotlong and Butha-Buthe.
About 300 primary and high schools will have permanent hand washing facilities installed in their premises, a move which will enhance hand washing practices.
““UNICEF has been preparing and responding to the epidemic of COVID-19 around the world, knowing
that the virus could spread to children in any country or community. We continue to work with governments and partners to stop transmission of the virus, and to keep children and their families safe,”” said Anurita Bains
UNICEF Country Representative. LRCS is the humanitarian organisation which aims to cushion against and offer capacitation towards crisis responses mitigation.
