Africa-Press – Lesotho. In solidarity and in the spirit to fight use and abuse of drugs amongst the youth, Khubetsoana men launched what they called ‘Khubetsoana Masetlaokong Men’s Council.’

This according to the Coordinator, Mr. Tiisetso Rasheleng is a deliberate attempt by the community headed by men to start the New Year on a high note and change the narrative.

He explained that upon identifying challenges facing the community, especially the youth in relation with use and abuse of drugs, they are trying to understand the extent of the problem and reasons behind.

Therefore, he said with support of LMPS, they have established that unemployment amongst the youth and other life threatening challenges have left youth prone to drugs, thus through the council their intention is to engage in poverty alleviation strategies, build networks amongst themselves so as to support each other.

Mr. Rasheleng explained that men are heads of families, they are opinion leaders who have power to transform, indicating the council through coordinated efforts will work towards creating employment and engaging government for support.

Hand in glove with different community leaders including a Member of Parliament and Community Councilor along with other people of good will, the launch became a success.

This launch comes a few days after the Agency conducted an interview with Community Councilor for Maseru Municipal Council (MMC- 01) Khubetsoana, Mrs ‘Makananelo Mohlouoa who affirmed that various events they embarked on this festive season have presented a positive outlook that slowly the community is reclaiming Khubetsoana to become a better and safe space in upbringing children.
