KING ACCEPTS CREDENTIALS FROM IRAN

Africa-Press – Lesotho. King Letsie lll accepted letters of credence from the Ambassador of Iran during a ceremony held at the Royal Palace.

Accepting the letters, the King said Lesotho cherishes and values bonds of relationships between the two countries since their formation in 1971.

He added that closure of Iran’s office in Pretoria in 1979 due to other factors affected these relations, indicating this is the time to work more on building the bonds of relations even though the two countries are geographically apart.

He noted that Lesotho views opportunities and working together in areas of health, renewable energy, and agriculture to mention but a few. “We also need to learn from you as far as issues of education and technology are concerned.” The king said.

In another issue, the King mentioned that conflict in the Middle East is a worrying factor, highlighting the need for the introduction of peaceful and diplomatic ways to solve problems.

In his speech, Ambassador of Iran Mr. Mansour Shakib Mehr thanked the King for approving his request to come and present his country in the Mountain Kingdom, further thanking him for his visit to Iran during the presidential ceremony in 2017.

He affirmed his government commitment to working with Lesotho in areas of economy, culture and politics to mention but a few.

Ambassador Mehr noted that he will work hard during his tenure as Ambassador to ensure strengthening of ties between the two countries.

After the credentials presentation, the Ambassador is expected to pay a courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane.
