Africa-Press – Lesotho. The chairmen of the 14 Vodacom Premier League clubs are set to meet today in a chairman’s forum to discuss the possible restart of the league season, amongst other issues.
The consultative meeting is also set to be about electing a new forum chairman. The position was held by Baba Malephane but he had to vacate it as soon as he was elected vice-chairman of the Premier League Management Committee (PLMC) last October.
The PLMC also aims to push all clubs to comply with the procedure set out by the Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) for the return to training and competition.
The PLMC wants clubs to submit all the documents required by LEFA so that all teams have equal preparation time when the Vodacom Premiership is given the green-light to restart.
While the date for the return of the league season has not been announced yet, PLMC spokesperson Qamako Mahao said they already have a proposed fixture list with dates. He said they aim to use May and June to finish the first round of fixtures.
“We have had the training of compliance officers which was the first step, I am aware that some clubs have already had a workshop facilitated by those officers and that is another step forward,” Mahao told thepost yesterday.
“By Tuesday about five clubs submitted (their paperwork) and if their papers are right they will be given permission to return to training. We have a proposed fixture with dates on it. Allow me not to reveal the date until the clubs have it,” he added.
Mahao continued: “What we are going to do is to push to make sure all the clubs comply because they must have similar amount of preparation in terms of time so that when we start, at least each and every team is at the right level to start.
Even in crises we don’t want to compromise the level of competition, they must get enough time to prepare so that they can give a good product for our sponsors.
Mahao insisted that clubs need to be reoriented and learn to live under the prevailing situation and survive without compromising the lives of officials, players and even supporters. Mahao said clubs must learn to adapt to a new normal.
