Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Lesala Community at Semonkong pleaded with the Prime Minister (PM) of Lesotho Dr. Moeketsi Majoro to make adjustment in service delivery especially for communities in the rural areas.

According to Ha-Lesala Community Councilor Montoeli Letuma the community want the PM to develop the Wool and Mohair Promotion Project (WAMPP) at Semonkong to assist smallholders and producers of wool and mohair on the production of fiber and also to preserve it from being destroyed in the wool shearing sheds.

He said they also request roads construction, especially the route that passes through Ha-Lesala, from Ketane to ‘Maletsunyane Waterfalls. “It has been two years now since Ketane road was mapped for transformation. The plan was to reduce transport challenges but that development strategy failed due to unclear queries surrounding the project.

Apart from that, Litsoenya Government Primary School and Lesala Shepherd School have to be considered by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) in terms of lack of learning equipment, shortage of water and part of Litsoenya Government Primary School building has been blown off during harsh weather conditions, therefore requires to be fixed,” Letuma noted.

Ha-Lesala native, ‘Maphoka Khotola speaking in an exclusive interview with Informative Newspaper said the natives are facing several challenges including shortage of water.

Besides, Khotola mentioned that the community needs more services like electricity installation, banks, health centers and provision of seedlings and fertilizers.

She also indicated that they are faced with serious unemployment as a result of the lockdown since the emergence of COVID-19 outbreak and requested the government of Lesotho to consider the conveyance of accessibility of services nearer to the rural communities.

Meanwhile, the PM announced that the Deputy Minister of Water Hon. Lepota Sekola is a step ahead in the implementation and supply of water in Semonkong as there is a huge water supply at Semonkong Children’s Care Center.

“He also provided water pipes that will be utilized for transmission of water across the villages,” he added.

“The government of Lesotho is also planning to aid Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) with infrastructure equipment to help with the construction of roads at Semonkong in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftainship.

I am also grateful with the extra work performed by some of Semonkong business owners who are as well making attempts and thorough contributions in the creation of the roads in this place,” Majoro stated.

On behalf of his Ministry, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Hon. Likopo Mahase made a pledge to hand out fertilizers and seedlings to Semonkong Children’s Care Center.
