Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lesotho was part of a two-day first Confederation of African Football (CAF) women’s football symposium held in Morocco to discuss different topics on advancing women’s football in Africa.

The symposium commenced on Monday the 5th March 2018 and it came to an end on Tuesday. Lesotho is represented by the Lesotho Women’s Football Committee President, Ms Puseletso Mokhosi and the Lesotho Football Association (Lefa) Secretary General, Mr Mokhosi Mohapi.

It is held under the theme; ‘raising our game. ’ A two-day event is expected to pave for the development of women’s football on the continent. It will define the future of women in sport, as various stakeholders will be discussing and exchanging ideas and knowledge towards raising women football standard.

The symposium focuses on seven topics discussed under working groups. The groups are; debating on means to expand the practice of Women’s Football, develop the technical formation of the trainers, referees and instructor, and improve sponsorship for women’s football.

The working groups also tackles perspective of CAF women competitions, governance concept in women’s football, role of women’s football in gender promotion and socialization, the place of media and communication in energizing women’s football.

The resolutions of the various working groups will be presented to the CAF Executive Committee for review, adoption and implementation. In a telephone interview from Morocco, Mokhosi disclosed that she was in a group discussing the ‘governance concept in women’s football’.

She said under the topic, they were focusing more on women participation in administration of football or participation of people in women football, including men in football as some men are interested in women football.

She indicated they were looking more on how women representation in percentage can be improved at national football associations, CAF and FIFA level. One of the idea raised, she disclosed was to strive for a certain percentage of women representation in administration (in the executive boards of the said groups; football associations, CAF and FIFA).

She made an example about Lefa by which there is no department for women football development as all the technical issues of football in Lesotho are being channeled to the office of Lefa technical director.

According to Mokhosi, it was discovered that even in the CAF structure, there is no women representative in their executive, therefore it was suggested that each region will nominate a women representative to go and be part of the CAF executive.

Mokhosi hailed the CAF initiative for the symposium for CAF to be able to help the sport only if they know what challenges are facing national sports associations.
