Africa-Press – Lesotho. As part of the preparations for the 2018 African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Under 20 Youth Games, Lesotho teams in their respective sporting codes have started with their final camps.
The games will be held in Gaborone Botswana from the 6th–16th December. Lesotho will be competing in seven (7) disciplines; Lawn Tennis, Ladies Soccer, Volleyball , Athletics, athletics for Visually Impaired, Boxing, and Netball.
AUSR Region 5 Lesotho team’s general manager Mrs ‘Mathabo Lelimo told Informative Sport that the camps started this past weekend and will end on the day of their departure, 4th December.
The camps are held at Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena, Scripture Union Centre and Anglican Training Centre. Though most of the teams have started their preparations, Lelimo indicated some are left behind because players are inclusive of students who are still busy with their studies.
This will be the first time Lesotho sends a female soccer team to the AUSC Region 5 Games. Talking to the ladies football Team manager Joalane Tongoane, she mentioned that the ladies will embark on their final camp at Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena this Friday as she believes all the players will be available.
Tongoane is confident that they had enough time to prepare the girls and that there is no doubt they will represent the country well. She added that they did test the team’s tenacities against senior ladies soccer powerhouses in the country, mentioning the likes of Kick4Life FC and the reigning champions Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) Ladies team.
On the other hand, netball ladies Team Manager ‘Matšepo ‘Musa disclosed that netball team camp started yesterday at the Scripture Union Centre. Initially Netball was not included in this tournament due to disputes that were running within the netball association.
However the quarrels were later resolved thus the team was included in the scheduling of the tournament. ‘Musa said that once they learnt they have been added to the list they started training on weekends.
They even participated in a netball tournament held in South Africa where they scooped position three. “We were very excited with these results as we were playing against senior teams,” she said.
