Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Lesotho Council for Tourism (LCT) was established at the two day workshop for tourism stakeholders together with a consultant from Uganda on Thursday.
This establishment follows the identification of tourism sector as a strategic sector for growth of the economy and uplifting of the livelihoods in Lesotho.
LCT Chairperson Advocate Makhetha Motšoari disclosed that the Government of Lesotho in, its endeavor to enhance participation that the tourism sector players in the relevant markets, has with
a view to ensure growth and sustainability of the individual tourism businesses employed the strategy of this apex body for tourism business sector. Advocate Motšoari indicated that the operational
framework of LCT consists among other things: capacity building for associations under it, ensuring that associations under LCT get incentives and bringing business opportunities to all its member associations.
He further unveiled that LCT Board is made up of 13 members who represent all stakeholder associations in the tourism sector. Furthermore, LCT Secretary Khabiso Nkune
who is representing the Tour Operators Association of Lesotho said among the Board members there are representatives of: Lesotho Hotel and Hospitality
Association, Tour Operators Association of Lesotho, Association of Travel Agents of Lesotho, Tour Guides Association, Lesotho Chefs Association, Quthing
Wildlife Association, Events Association of Lesotho, to mention but a few. From the Lesotho Tourism Development Cooperation (LTDC), the Head of Investment Promotion Mamello Morojele said the
preparations to finally establish LCT took a long time because in earlier years, the council encountered challenges of closure until LTDC received support from the African Development Bank (AfDB) through the Executive Directors
(EDs) Project to resuscitate it.
