Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lesotho is part of the nineteen fellows from across Africa participating in the second cohort of the Africa CDC Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) Fellowship.

One of the fellows in this programme Ms. Tebello Kolobe who is a field epidemiologist from the Kingdom of Lesotho’s Ministry of Health, under the Environmental Health Department said that the fellowship is a six-month program under the Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) Division of Africa CDC that trains mid-career public health professionals to manage Public Health Emergency Operations Centres (PHEOCs) and lead emergency preparedness and response programs.

She stated that it combines classroom training facilitated by public health experts from across the continent and beyond, mentorship, study tours including visits to PHEOCs within and outside Africa and field placements in other African countries.

She added that the program will strengthen skills in incident management, rapid response and coordination of public health emergencies, while emphasizing the One Health approach, which links human, animal and environmental health to prevent and control outbreaks and contributes to building a resilient health system across Africa.
