This event is historic as Lesotho is the first African nation to host the CTO Council Meeting, emphasizing the importance of digital transformation for public service and cybersecurity in the country.

Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Right Honorable Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Mr Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane, declared open the 64th Council Meeting of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization (CTO) and the Commonwealth Digital Roadshow, on Monday in Maseru.

In his address, the Prime Minister expressed pride that Lesotho has become the first African country to host the CTO Council Meeting, describing it as a historic milestone for the Kingdom and the continent. He extended appreciation to the CTO for its continued partnership and its role in strengthening Lesotho’s institutional and technical capacity in the digital sector.

The Prime Minister further highlighted the importance of support from the CTO, particularly in the areas of Artificial Intelligence and cybersecurity, noting that such collaboration is critical in safeguarding Lesotho’s digital ecosystem against emerging threats and ensuring a secure digital future.

He emphasised that digital transformation is central to improving efficiency in public service delivery, enhancing government transparency, and expanding access to services for citizens. He also noted that a strong digital ecosystem will assist Lesotho in navigating complex global geopolitical and economic dynamics.

The opening of the Council Meeting and Digital Roadshow marks the beginning of a week-long programme bringing together policymakers, development partners, industry leaders, youth, and women to advance digital transformation across Lesotho and the Commonwealth.
