Africa-Press – Lesotho. During the 14th session of the Conference of the Parties (CoP-14) of the African Risk Capacity (ARC) held in the Capital Addis Ababa, Ethiopia between April 22 and 23, the Kingdom of Lesotho has been elected as Chair for the year 2024-2025.

The Conference of Parties (CoP), is the supreme decision-making body of the Agency, whose responsibility is to provide the final approvals on critical strategic matters that define the ARC Group’s work after Board reviews and endorsements.

The African Risk Capacity is a specialized agency of the African Union, mandated to help Member States improve their capacities to better plan, prepare and respond to weather-induced events and disease outbreaks.

According to press statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Lesotho to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Ms. Ntšiuoa Sekete says this added responsibility will hopefully complement Lesotho’s efforts in addressing risk, recalling that in 2020, ‘Lesotho and the African Risk Capacity signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to scale up national disaster risk Management.’
