Africa-Press – Lesotho. In the first meeting between the two teams, Zambia marched to a convincing 3-1 win at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Thursday evening. Tshwarelo Bereng gave Lesotho the lead in the 33rd minute, as Toaster Nsabata’s goalkeeping blunder put his side on the back foot.
However, Lesotho’s lead lasted four minutes as Fashion Sakala mustered up a brilliant individual effort to bring his nation back into the tie. A second-half brace by Lameck Banda ensured Zambia maximum points in the tie as Chipolopolo climbed into second spot in group H.
Speaking after the tie, Zambia coach Avram Grant was pleased with his side’s performance but reiterated that improvements are needed after making a winning start to his tenure with the popular nation.
“I am happy that the team responded well,” Grant said.
“We did not give up after conceding. We still need to keep working hard because there is a lot of work to be done. ” Lesotho are winless in their current 2023 Afcon qualifying campaign, losing two out of their last three encounters in group H.
Also, the home team are now winless in their last three matches in all competitions but will take solace in their recent form at home. Lesotho are currently unbeaten in their last six matches at home and recorded back-to-back wins against Malawi and Mauritius in their last two fixtures as the host nation.
