Africa-Press – Lesotho. Maseru — The Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Dr. Retšelisitsoe Matlanyane joined her counterparts from around the world at the 2025 ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development (FFD Forum) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The Forum was followed by the Preparatory Session for the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4).
These meetings brought together global leaders to share strategies and solutions to today’s most pressing development financing challenges and to build momentum ahead of the FFD4 Conference, scheduled for 30 June to 3 July 2025 in Seville, Spain.
Dr. Matlanyane was an active participant in a series of Ministerial Fire-chats, engaging on topics that included Lowering borrowing costs and promoting development-oriented debt solutions, Revitalizing development cooperation for inclusive and impactful growth,Mobilising private investment for sustainable development,Harnessing trade and technology for development as well as Investing in data to accelerate national and global development.
She also contributed to a High-Level Dialogue on Financing the Energy Transition in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) a discussion that aligns with Lesotho’s Just Energy Transition initiative, championed by His Majesty King Letsie III, aimed at attracting investment in renewable energy and sustainable growth.
To conclude her mission, Dr. Matlanyane held a meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General, Her Excellency Ms. Amina Mohammed.
The two discussed ongoing developments in Lesotho amid global economic shifts and reviewed progress following the historic visits of both the DSG and the UN Secretary-General to Lesotho in 2024.
