Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Minister of Home Affairs Hon. Motlalentoa Letsosa held a virtual meeting on cross border movement with his South African counterpart Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi.
Letsosa said the virtual meeting was intended to discuss the implementation of effective crossing procedures between the two countries, aligned with the World Health
Organisation (WHO) precautionary measures against Covid-19. He said Basotho will now test for Covid-19 when going to South Africa (SA) as well as when arriving in the
country. According to Letsosa this tests will only be carried out at Maseru border post, Maputsoe, Van Rooyen’s Gate, CaledonSpoort and Ramats’eliso. Letsosa
stated that the tests will cost between M150 and M200. “The test results will expire after 14 days of issue,” he said. He furthered, “Renewal of Lesotho Exception Permits (LEPs), known as special permits has been extended until
January 31st 2021. ” He expanded that for those who overstayed their stipulated time in SA, a committee has been formed to inspect and resolve their issues.
However he explained that the committee will deal only with terminated passports of Basotho whose work permits expired while in SA and those who overstayed due to health related issues.
