Africa-PressLesotho. Jhpiego Corporation has identified Lesotho to conduct the bi-annual HIV/TB technical update meeting in February 2019. According to Jhpiego Lesotho press statement, every two years, the Jhpiego global HIV/TB technical unit convenes within the Southern African region to collectively engage in discussions on emerging evidence in HIV and Tuberculosis (TB) programming globally.

This year, Lesotho was selected based on the strong achievements of Jhpiego’s support to Ministry of Health in voluntary medical male circumcision, pre-exposure prophylaxis, clinical mentoring in HIV/TB, TB contact tracing and HIV/TB support in prisons.

The objectives of the meeting are to: describe advances, recent research and merging technologies and their possible impact on Jhpiego HIV and TB programs, examine current HIV-TB implementation, best practices on quality from Jhpiego country programs in the context of increased targets and stable or reduced resources, explore opportunities for collaboration and country-to-country linkages to strengthen HIV and TB technical leaders and programmatic practices.

“Further to our discussions, there will be learning visits to different sites that are supported by Jhpiego on the 20th February 2019. The learning visits will be in Maseru and Berea,” continued the statement.

Attending countries will be Rwanda, South Africa, South Sudan, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi and Lesotho as the host. Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University in America.

The organization develops strategies to help countries care for themselves by training competent health care workers, strengthening health systems and improving delivery of care. It also works with community leaders to provide high-quality health care for their people.
