Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), the Pandemic Fund and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (AFRICA CDC) held the second Joint External Evaluation (JEE) in Maseru on Monday.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the Minister of Health, Deputy Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Mats’oanelo Monyobi said the event demonstrates Lesotho’s strong commitment to strengthening national health security and improving the country’s preparedness and response to public health threats.
Mrs. Monyobi mentioned that JEE is a vital process under the international Health Regulations (IHR) monitoring and evaluating framework that provides an evidence -based assessment of a country’s capacity to prevent, detect and respond to health emergencies.
She said it also encourages collaboration between national and international experts to foster transparency, mutual accountability and shared progress.
She emphasized that Lesotho first undertook the exercise in 2017 which proved instrumental in identifying the country’s public health strengths and areas needing improvement. She indicated that the current evaluation aims to build on those achievements to ensure a stronger and more resilient health system.
