Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Lesotho Volleyball Association (LVA) Metropolitan 2018 League got underway over the weekend at Makoanyane volleyball courts. The first tournament of the league saw Redskins ladies team beating H-Flow with 3-1 in the semifinals to proceed to finals.

Redskins will face Lesotho Defence Force side, who crushed Mahlaseli with 3-0. Again in the male category, LDF and Redskins will meant in the finals. Redskins book the sport after a 3-0 win over Limkokwing University while LDF routed Green Spikes with 3-2.

The finals are set for the 7th April at Makoanyane. LVA spokesperson, Mr Buller Phalatsi said this year they unburdened the executive committee with fully running the league by creating departmental commission as per their constitution.

“We are now going to having referees/judges commission that will work on the rules and regulations of the sport. This commission is also mandated to recruit other judges and referees,” he said.

Apart from that he said they established a coaches’ commission which will mainly focus on identifying talent all over the country and also to spot and scout players for the national teams, from the underage up to the senior teams of all categories.

Phalatsi mentioned that they also have technical commission which is going to be responsible for all volleyball technical matters relating to the provision of international competition, including competition systems, world rankings, and the international and local calendar of events, technical officials and equipment.

This year the Lesotho Volleyball champions, Redskins males’ team will be the defending champions while in the females’ category Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) will the reigning champions.

The same Redskins last year December qualified for the 2018 African Volleyball Championship scheduled to be held in Cairo, Egypt from 25th March 6th April 2018.

This came after their third place finish in the 2017 African Zone VI held in Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF Grounds) and Magamba on the 14th-17th December 2017.

Redskin’s spokesperson, Ms Motšelisi Makoa yesterday told the Informative Sport that since they came back from the qualifying Zimbabwe games they had been getting ready for the championship even though they are facing some financial hiccups.
