Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lesotho rugby sevens (7s) national team obtained position eight out of ten teams that were competing in the 2nd edition of the annual Zambia International Rugby 7s tournament.
The tournament started on the 1st to 2nd September at the Lusaka Polo Club in Zambia. In their first game on Saturday Lesotho went down 37-10 to Zambia Nkwazi before they could hummer Malawi with 24-17 on the same day.
In the other encounter of the day Lesotho lost 50-07 against Zimbabwe Goshawks. In their last game played on Sunday Lesotho again were slapped 24-7 buy Sharks Academy.
The team’s manager, Mr Morapeli Motaung told this publication that this was the second time the Lesotho outfit were participating in this annual event. So he said as compared to last year, the team was better this year citing that at least in all games they played they were able to score tries.
Back from Zambia, Lesotho will then for the second time in a row host Maseru International 7’s Rugby tournament scheduled for September 14 to 16 at Setsoto Stadium.
From the 27th September to 2nd October, Lesotho will be in Burundi for the Rugby Africa 7s tournament. Therefore Motaung said they were using the Zambia tournament as part of their preparations for the forthcoming competitions.
Earlier, Motaung mentioned that after the Zambia showpiece last year, the team took part in several international competitions including the tournaments which included the 2018 Victoria Falls International Rugby 7s tournament held in Zimbabwe earlier this year.
On that note, Motaung stated that they are using such opportunities as a learning curve for the Lesotho team. He said playing against Africa rugby powerhouses in these tournaments gave them an opportunity to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
“From each tournament, we learn new things that can help us build a strong team,” added Motaung. The team left Zambia yesterday morning to Lesotho.
