Likuena set for COSAFA Cup 2022

Africa-Press – Lesotho. The much-anticipated draw for the 2022 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup will be staged in Durban on July 5th to 17th, at Moses Mabhida Stadium and Likuena will be part of the games. During the COSAFA cup games, Lesotho was drawn in Group B alongside Eswatini, Malawi and Mauritius. The top team from each group will advance to the last-eight to join seeded opposition such as guests Senegal, Namibia, Mozambique, Zambia and South Africa (SA). According to COSAFA website, the team with the highest points from each group will proceed to the quarterfinal stage where highly ranked teams will be waiting for the battle.
The seeded teams which are already waiting in the quarterfinal stage are Namibia, Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique and Senegal. Madagascar will face Namibia, SA face Mozambique whereas Group B top team will take on Senegal.
Zambia will face the winner of the Group. Likuena’s Coach Veselina Jelusi said he will use the forthcoming COSAFA Cup to give exposure to up-and-coming players.
On Lesotho Football Association website, Jelusi postulated that such exposure could help market the players to teams from big club leagues, especially those in SA.
“Of course, one of our ideas is to see these players getting chances to play in the premier league in South Africa.
It will help us when we play against strong national teams and let’s hope these things will happen in future. Yes, the COSAFA Cup is another opportunity for our players to express their talent.
It will be a chance for them to come to strong clubs and play professional football,” he said Jelusi has named a 28-man provisional squad for the upcoming games that will be played in SA.

The selection has a number of experienced players in the mix, including midfielders Lehlohonolo Matsau from the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF), Lehlohonolo Fothoane Bantu, Lisema Lebokollane from Matlama, Tsepo Toloane and Thabo Mafatle from Lijabatho, Neo Mokhachane from Bantu, Tšepang Sefali from Bantu, Letlatsa Moshoeshoe from LDF, Tumelo Makha from Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) .
Goalkeepers: Tankiso Chaba from Lesotho Correctional Services (LCS), Sekhoane Moerane from Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) and Monaheng Ramalefane from Matlama.
