Liphakoe set to reject Lioli’s attempt to sign Khupa

Africa-Press – Lesotho. Vodacom Premier League side Liphakoe are set to reject Lioli’s attempts to sign highly-rated attacking midfielder Teboho Khupa. The decision to turn down ‘Tse Nala’s approach was made by Liphakoe management in a meeting yesterday which was confirmed to thepost by the club’s spokesperson, Tsietsi Portas.

Lioli wrote to Liphakoe earlier this month requesting the services of Khupa and their offer remained unanswered while Liphakoe deliberated whether to let go of the player or keep him.

Liphakoe did allow the player to speak with Lioli and, according to sources, Khupa was himself open to switching allegiances from Quthing to Teyateyaneng side. Khupa spoke to Lioli and laid out his demands, sources said.

One of the demands that Lioli had to meet was providing Khupa with daily transportation to TY for training sessions because relocating from his home in Ha Thetsane is out of the question due to personal family commitments.

Talks between the player and Lioli reached an impasse as the club could not give him an answer on his requests. However, according to people close to Khupa who spoke to thepost yesterday, the player was still very much open to joining Lioli if they promise to cater for his transport.

“Because of family issues he cannot relocate to TY where he would be close to Lioli but if the team agrees to at least help him with transport, he will then sign with the team,” said one person close to the situation.

If Lioli fail to agree to Khupa’s demands, there is a good chance he will remain with Liphakoe. Lioli spokesperson Kananelo Ramokoatsi confirmed ‘Tse Nala’ have made an offer to Liphakoe for Khupa’s services but he refused to disclose how far they were with the negotiations.

Ramokoatsi said Lioli do not comment on transfer rumours until an agreement has been reached. Earlier yesterday before the club’s management met, one Liphakoe executive, who asked not to be named, said it seemed Lioli were struggling to reach an agreement with the player.

He said Liphakoe gave Khupa permission to discuss terms with Lioli or any other team of his choice but there is still no agreement with any club. The delay in agreeing to a deal with Lioli could be the reason why Liphakoe have now decided to pull the plug. However, there is still a chance the player could leave Quthing before the transfer window shuts next week Thursday.
