The Lesotho Institutions Sports Association (LISA) held the 2021 National Executive Committee (NEC) elections and the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday at Setsoto Stadium.

The Former LISA General Secretary Posholi Posholi told Informative Sport that the elections are held after every 4 years term in February but this year they were delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. “There were 8 contestants for these elections. The purpose of the elections was in consent with LISA procedure and governance principle which implies that after every quadrennial the new committee has to be elected,” he noted.

He showed that according to LISA structure, the executive part of the committee and 3 representatives in the LISA zonal district committees are expected to elect except for the 2 Lesotho Principals Association (LEPSA) representatives who do not elect. “Representatives from the committees are selected from High schools and the institutions of higher learning and they normally have to hold the position of President, Secretary General and Treasure,” he said.

Posholi added that LISA is the only multi- sport organization in the country dealing with different sport codes including football, athletics, volley ball, basketball, netball, rugby and others, so it is a huge challenge for an association to direct several sport codes in a development state. He however enlightened that LISA had a broad mandate on the previous term but it has achieved more as in the athletics, they have won 5 gold medals in the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Region games in different years and also won 2 gold medals two times in the under 17 football.

He further showed that LISA is also heading to the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Games in December, so most of the players who participate in these games are from LISA under 17 and 20. “It is anticipated that LISA games will commence so that we can look for the talent that will represent the country in these tournaments. Also, there are athletes who are already identified to participate in the Olympic Games and that means the country will be represented fully in these tournaments,” Posholi stated.
