Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) launched Easter holidays campaign to curb the high rate of crime. Commissioner of Police (COMPOL) Holomo Molibeli said Easter Holidays are one of the longest
holidays where people are expected to use borders to come into the country to visit their families. “As LMPS, we are ready to help the nation to celebrate
these holidays peacefully and we also urge them to remember that Covid-19 is still there and they need to observe its regulations,” he said. Molibeli further pleaded with the people who will be using the borders to be patient.
He said people who will be visiting their families in other areas need to be alert that during this time of the year, there are law breakers who take advantage by
breaking into the houses and he advised that there should be neighborhood watch. Molibeli said one other factor that troubles them is car accidents happening during this period of the year.
“We have road blocks already in place at some areas to take control and ensure that drivers are sober while driving,” he said. Molibeli
said they have breathalyzers which they will use to detect if a person has alcohol in their blood while driving. They also have speed cameras which will
be used to record a vehicle speed and people who will not abide by the road laws will be convicted. He said people also need to be aware that this is a rainy season and drivers need to drive carefully. He said LMPS has an emergency number 112 where people can seek help from the Police.
