Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC) hosted the Africa Export Import Bank (Afreximbank) mission in Lesotho from August 2- 4, 2023. The Afreximbank is a pan-African supranational multilateral financial institution created in 1993 under the auspices of the African Development Bank.

The Government of Lesotho is a shareholder of the bank. In its new strategy the LNDC emphasises the need for collaborative efforts as espoused in its tagline “together, we build sustainable industry”.

Access to suitable finance has been identified under the strategy as one of the key requirements for sustainable industrialisation that builds domestic businesses with access to markets finance, infrastructure and FDI partnerships.

Collaboration with Afreximbank is a timely initiative to increase access to finance for the industrialisation programme in Lesotho. The bank’s visit to Lesotho was to explore existing demand for the bank’s services and establish collaborations with key market players in the areas of trade finance, export development and co-financing with relevant institutions.

The bank visit was also intended to initiate discussions with chambers of commerce and business associations regarding a wide range of the bank’s business support programmes and facilities.

The bank further extended an invitation to Lesotho’s private sector to consider participation in the upcoming Intra-African Trade Fair 2023 to be held in Cairo from November 9 to 15, 2023.

During the visit, the Afreximbank delegation witnessed the launch of the LNDC’s five-year strategic plan and the sod turning of the Isuzu dealership project.
