Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Lesotho Weightlifting Federation (LWF) top athletes Thapelo Sebota and Machachamise Ntšinyi will compete at the 2021 Weightlifting World Championships scheduled for December 07th

to 17th in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The Weightlifting World Championships is an event organized by International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) whereby the athletes compete in a total of 20 weight categories, 10 for men and 10 for

women. LWF National Coach Relebohile Motjamela disclosed in an exclusive interview with Informative Sport on Wednesday that Sebota will compete in the 61 Kilogram (Kg) weight men category

while Ntšinyi will contest in the 73 Kg men weight class. “These tournaments will form part of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) rankings which occur annually but

this is our first time to participate because the federation did not qualify to participate in the previous years due to lack of sufficient and appropriate

weights for practice. Therefore, currently through the attendance of some of the IWF tournaments in the previous years, we were able to improve our performance and thus join the 2021 Weightlifting World Championships,” he said.

Motjamela noted that their participation in this tournament is a gateway for the upcoming Commonwealth Games set for July 2022 in Birmingham, England.

He said Machachamise occupies position 12 while Sebota is at 7 on the current IWF Commonwealth Games rankings issued in October this year. He added that they are also looking forward to

another IWF competition rankings from the weightlifting competitions to be held in February 2022 in Mauritius. Lesotho weightlifters missed one international tournament this year, the Tokyo Olympics that were held in July

in Tokyo, Japan. They took part in the African Senior Weightlifting Qualification Championships in Antananarivo, Madagascar earlier this year and the 2021

African Senior Men and Women Gold Olympic Weightlifting Qualification Championships in May. When asked about how he perceives the overall performance of the athletes at the national, level Motjamela said it is very promising.
