Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lerotholi Polytechnic (LP) has held an exposition to showcase students’ projects that they have assembled as part of their learning in their respective programs.

Held on Thursday, the exposition also served as career guidance to grade 12 students from chosen schools in the districts, who were cautioned to learn and choose careers wisely. The LP campus was full of stalls and workshops that showed what LP had to offer. In an interview with Informative Newspaper, LP Rector Professor Spirit Tlali said

one other purpose of this expo was to change the perception that the public have about the institution because the deaths of one or two students a year tend to overshadow the amazing work that the institution does. When listing the challenges that come with this event, Tlali said they are unable to accommodate all the high schools in the country because the place would be overcrowded and defect the main purpose of the event. He said by right, many students would be invited, saying another challenge is that most programmes are short of learners.

“Programmes like Mechanical Engineering, Architecture and Construction Management are short of learners because pupils

are not knowledgeable about these courses, so the expo helps enlighten students about such programmes,” he said. However, Tlali said now the institution is

focused on designing new programs and also developing existing ones. The Civil Engineering Lab is one of the successful companies that are a product of LP.

According to the Civil Engineer Liteboho Motseko, the company does soils and gravels testing for civil engineering works to determine the suitability of soil for the type of construction to be done.

He said the Basotho owned company is the only laboratory in Lesotho that has been accredited, saying they can work in all Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries.

He thanked LP for giving them the platform to exhibit their work and give career guidance to students. This event was sponsored by Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL), Mothae Diamond, Kang Fong

Production, Midas, Leader Construction (PTY) Ltd, Civil Engineering Lab (PTY) Ltd, Autoland and the Maseru City Council (MCC) as stakeholders and direct beneficiaries from LP products.
