Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Lesotho Volleyball Association (LVA) on Sunday presented their financial regulations and the strategic plan to be used for the next four years. Both documents were adopted by the LVA’s members and the association is now set to crack on with their plans.
After being elected into the new office in March, the new committee asked for three months to work on their plan and financial regulations as the association had neither and called a special meeting to present those plans.
In the plan, the association said it plans to empower women in volleyball, to develop and train coaches and to develop athletes. The association’s spokesperson, Hlapane Tšehlo, said they are not in a hurry because they are embarking on a huge project.
He said it is a project that will not give instant results but will be important in shaping volleyball. The main takeaway from the meeting was a focus on the development of athletes.
The association said it will work with Lesotho Public Service Staff Association (LEPSSA) and Lesotho Institutions Sport Association (LISA) as they already have a large pool of players because they work with students.
Each club registered with the LVA will have to work with a school where they will develop and train students and teach them volleyball. In that way, the association will be able to continue their talent identification of which selected players will form a national team.
Tšehlo said they want to build a national team that can compete at the highest level. “In these four years we want to build a national team that will compete.
Development will be the main thing for us and the plan is already there, our target is to do talent identification, it’s a big project, but will not give us instant results.
We will work with LISA and LEPSSA because they work with students already, we want to develop players,” Tšehlo said. “We presented the financial regulations which were accepted, the association didn’t have any (before).
We talked about good governance, not only for the association but even for our clubs too. One of the things we talked about was marketing volleyball because we are aware we cannot run sport without any funding,” he said.
