Africa-Press – Lesotho. On Friday, Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL) opened a surprise package for Federation of Lesotho Rugby (FLR) as it unveiled the sponsorship worth M150 000 for the

rugby league. This also served as a sign of strong relations and friendship that the two organizations have, and the long journey they have travelled.

ETL General Manager, Marketing and Customer Experience ‘Mapusetso Ntšekhe explained that this move is aimed for investment in the talent and the future of Basotho.

She also said ETL is convinced that if they hold hands together, they can be able to reach their destinations, build their children and the future generation a platform to portray their potential.

FLR Secretary General (SG) Litšitso Motšeremeli explained that ETL has previously invested in the development of rugby in Lesotho. He added that the rugby sport is currently

active in Butha-Buthe, Leribe, Berea, Maseru, Mafeteng, Mohale’s Hoek, Quthing, Qacha’s Nek and Thaba-Tseka. ETL Public Relations Officer (PRO) Puleng Masoabi indicated that since they

sponsored rugby league, ETL has spent over M1 million inclusive of the new sponsorship amounting to M150 000. On Other developments, FRL President Fetang Seliea-liea announced that soon their

national team will partake in ‘Currie Cup’. “Our plan in five (5) years is that our team will be walking on the footsteps of countries like South Africa, Zimbabwe

or even Kenya,” he said. Econet Rugby League results for last weekend stand as follows; Warriors won 26-0 against Academy and Mabote Beavers defeated NUL spears 6-0.

Following matches played last weekend, Warriors is currently on the 1st place, followed by Liqhomane on 2nd place and Mabote Beavers on 3rd place. Lesotho

Rugby team was established in October, 2011 but became active in 2012. In the same year when it showed its activeness, ETL was interested in sponsoring the league and even bought first full kit for all the teams including corner flags among others.
