Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Lesotho to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) has commended Lesotho for being elected into AU peace and security council.
Ms. Nts’iuoa Sekete is adamant the position places Lesotho at a better place, reaffirming the country’s commitment towards peace, stability and security.
Commenting on this election as according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, the Ambassador attested to this as an honour, signalling major responsibility bestowed upon the Mountain Kingdom.
She added that this will go a long way in strengthening peaceful, resilience and unity in the African continent while also enhances shared responsibilities.
In addition, the Ambassador articulated that the Mountain Kingdom accepts the gesture with humility, clarity and well-defined purpose, thereby working towards principles of enhancing dialogue and democracy.
She further explained that for Lesotho, peace is not just about absence of conflict but safeguarding the rights of all including the marginalised that is women,young girls and children amongst others.
The election into the council comes just after Lesotho has been removed from SADC watch-list, the Agency has learnt.
Furthermore it is also said that former Prime Minister (PM), Dr. Moeketsi Majoro has been appointed as Member of the Panel of Eminent Persons of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM).
The appointment, endorsed at the AU level is reported to showcase continued confidence in Lesotho’s contribution to African governance democracy and peer accountability.
