MAKOANYANE SQUARE UPGRADE BRINGS BOOM FOR LOCAL TRADERS

MASERU, Feb. 09 -The recent renovation of Makoanyane Square has breathed new life into small businesses operating around the popular public space, with local photographers already reporting an increase in customers.

One such beneficiary is Mr. Bafokeng Sutha of Khubetsoana, Berea, who has been working as a photographer at the square since last year. He says the improvements have had a noticeable positive impact on his business.

Mr. Sutha explained that the upgraded environment is attracting more visitors, particularly during the evenings. “Business is now promising, especially at night when the lights are on, the water features are playing and the trees are lit,” he said.

He added that the improved setting has transformed the square into a preferred location for people looking to capture special moments. “Customers now come straight to the park to take pictures,” he said.

Mr. Sutha further noted that the renovated square is also drawing visitors from outside the country.

According to him, the improvements at Makoanyane Square are not only benefiting photographers but also other small traders operating in the area. “There is an exchange of money here because there are people selling food, and as photographers we also buy from them,” he said, adding that the renovation has helped stimulate economic activity around the square.

The upgraded Makoanyane Square has since become a vibrant social hub, offering both business opportunities and a welcoming environment for visitors.
