Africa-Press – Lesotho. MOSIUOA Kitime, 28, paid with his life for daring to run away from an initiation school earlier this month. His alleged murderers, Tšepo “Sepamo” Phohleli, 34, of Ha-Nkhema in Nazareth, and the 28-year-old Seabata “Khumama” Moremoholo of Bela-Bela in Berea, appeared in the Maseru Magistrate’s Court on Monday charged with murder.

The duo, who were remanded in custody, will reappear in court on January 2. Kitime, of Koalabata in Berea, will be buried on Saturday. Police said Kitime was at a initiation school in Mahetleng, Ha-Matela around Machache area, when he tried to flee.

He was however intercepted at Sehlabeng-sa-Lipere in Khalong-la-Baroa where he was brought back to the initiation school. Kitime, the police say, was found with bruises on his body when the police examined him.

He did not have wounds on his head or face but his body had severe bruises that signalled that he was severely battered. Kitime was a first year student at the Centre for Accounting Studies (CAS).

He graduated from Lerotholi Polytechnic with engineering qualifications. Kitime was the only boy in a family of four children. He is survived by his wife.

Meanwhile, in another incident Ralimakatso Tlali, 29, from Bela-Bela, Thabang Lebusa, 40, from Lithabaneg Ha-Kepi, and Lebohang Khunong, 31, from Lekokoaneng Ha-Makoatlane, appeared before the Berea Magistrate’s Court on December 15 charged with the murder of an initiate.

The murdered man was Neo Mokhethea, 39, of Lekokoaneng. They were remanded in custody. Police received a report indicating that an initiate had died in Ha-Molemane on November 30.

Police said Mokhethea was found with assault marks all over his body, indicating that he had been beaten. The investigation led to the arrest and prosecution of the three initiation teachers. The trio will be back in court on December 28.
