Africa-Press – Lesotho. Following the completion of the installation of water pipes from Metolong to Makhoarane and Mazenod, the Ministry of Water had on Monday met with the councils at the two areas to
communicate strategies to be used for the implementation of the project. Present at the discussion were the Minister of Water Hon. Nkaku Kabi, his Principal Secretary Malefetsane
Nchaka, District Administrator Mpane Nthunya, representatives and members of different councils as well as Chiefs. Kabi stated that he is taking over the work from the previous Minister of Water, and along the process
there were delays, he emphasised that the delay is not due to the chairperson of the council, Parliamentarians as well as the minister rather by people who
are given duties to perform in different departments. Kabi indicated that they are going to supply water in Qeme Constituency. He said water supply began in
Thaba-Bosiu (Metolong). “We have come to talk with the councils so that they alert the communities that work is about to begin in their homes and villages.
There will also be stand-alone taps in the villages that benefit families that cannot afford to pay for the installation of a tap and cannot afford to pay the water
bill,” he stated. He highlighted that there are villages (Hajimisi and Hammasana) that are left behind in this project. These villages will be supplied by Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO) with the
project called Greater Maseru. He said villages to be supplied by the ministry are Mazenod constituency that includes ‘Mantšebo, Ha-Pita and Ha-Teko while in
Makhoarane A08 constituency Morija villages and Matsieng will benefit. “When the pipes leak, nobody should run to WASCO, councils should own this project, if ever there is a need
for repairs the councils should take the responsibility,” he charged. He added that the project will cover all the districts of Lesotho. Theproject is expected
to commence in June. Mazenod Council Chairperson Sello Molise said he wishes for those promises to become reality and however indicated that they are grateful for this initiative as they have
been thirsty for water in their village. Makhoarane Council Chairperson Lebohang Makhetha said he will only thank the minister after the commencement of the project, however he also appreciated that they are part of the project.
