Africa-Press – Lesotho. The National Police Inspectorate (IGPN) has opened an investigation into a donation Kylian Mbappé made to five police officers who protected the French national team in 2023, according to Le Canard Enchaîné.
Tracfin, France’s financial intelligence unit, flagged the payments: four brigadiers received €30,000 each, and their commanding officer received €60,300—bringing the total to over €180,000.
Mbappé reportedly told authorities he donated his entire 2022 World Cup bonus to both security staff and charitable organizations, with advice from a tax lawyer who deemed the gesture a “customary donation.”
However, the IGPN is focusing on the commanding officer’s higher share and his repeated presence around the striker, including during Mbappé’s private trip to Cameroon. The case now raises questions about ethics, transparency, and police conduct in accepting large private gifts.
