Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Minister of Natural Resources Mr. Mohlomi Moleko awarded contracts to 31 contractors for the construction of rural water supply systems and VIP latrine projects across the country.

While delivering his speech, the Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, Mr. Moleko emphasized the importance of water, noting that it requires careful management.

Mr. Moleko stated that Lesotho has abundant water resources, which should benefit Basotho, since the country currently receives only 3.4% of the water, and supplies over 40% of the water to other countries.

He also encouraged contractors to work well with their employees and ensure timely payments to maintain smooth operations.

On the other hand, Mr. Liphooko Mokotoane, the director of the Department of Rural Water Supply, highlighted that they selected the contractors based on their virtues.

Mr. Mokotoane also mentioned that water projects will be launched in different districts where three contractors will be deployed in Mokhotlong, four in Leribe, three in Maseru, three in Butha-Buthe, two in Berea, three in Mafeteng, three in Mohale’s Hoek, seven in Thaba-Tseka, and one in Qacha’s Nek.

One of the contractors, Mr. Mosiuoa Mokhosi assured the minister that he would complete his current project within the agreed timeframe.

He further appealed for additional work opportunities, noting that many contractors have been unemployed for the past six years since their previous assignments.
