MINISTER RAPAPA COMMENDS MAPOTENG MASTERMIND INITIATIVE AT DAHON HIGH SCHOOL

The Minister of Education and Training, Ntoi Rapapa, has commended the Mapoteng Masterminds initiative for supporting learners at Dahon High School through donations of school necessities.

Speaking during a donation event organised by the group at the school, Professor Rapapa said he learned about the initiative through social media and decided to contact the organisers so that he could take part in the programme.

He applauded the initiative, noting that the concept of “Back to School” has evolved over the years. He said the concept was previously associated mainly with people wearing school uniforms for celebration purposes, but has now become an opportunity for communities to support learners by donating essential school items.

Professor Rapapa further revealed that after deciding to support the initiative, he personally purchased 30 pairs of school shoes to add to those already donated to learners at Dahon High School, which he once attended.

He also explained that the “Back to School” initiative is one he started at the Ministry several years ago and remains passionate about. According to him, the programme has grown significantly over time and now even involves the Prime Minister.

He indicated that last year the initiative managed to raise about one million maloti to assist children living with disabilities. The funds were used to purchase wheelchairs, spectacles and other essential items.

Reflecting on his upbringing, Professor Rapapa said he understands the challenges faced by learners who attend school without basic necessities such as shoes, adding that such support can make a meaningful difference in a child’s education.

He encouraged learners to remain focused on their studies and work hard in order to build a better future.
