Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of the Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Dr. Khothatso Ts’ooana has on Friday led officially a vibrant opening of Tholoana Kojana (TEAKAY) enterprise wool-shed at Ha-Makama Bolahla area in Tosing Community Council.

TEAKAY enterprise wool-shed is a Mosotho woman owned constructed from May to August and started to operate from last month.

Addressing attendants on behalf of Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition at the same event, Dr. Ts’ooana who is also a retired Commissioner of Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS), applauded TEAKAY enterprise for positive response to the government’s call of joined efforts by public and private sector in creating job opportunities to address the country’s challenge of high unemployment rate.

He said the enterprise has also played a vital role in ensuring that wool and mohair are sheared at a recommended place for maintenance of standards encouraged to meet international market standards of the product, adding it also prevent crime and livestock diseases as they are inspected before shearing.

Dr. Ts’ooana highlighted that the Ministry is engaged in implementation of Wool and Mohair Value Chain Competitiveness Project (WAMCOP) that boost overall Competitiveness of the wool and mohair value chain, adding that farmers and the enterprise should ensure that they attend meetings to be held for introduction of the project at district to acquire information to help them take steps to benefit from the project.

At the same event, the Director Field Services (DFS) in the Ministry Mr. Thabo Sekhonya commended the TEAKAY enterprise for meeting farmers with their felt need of a wool-shed in the rural area and government that has a challenge of constructing wool-sheds to meet all farmers from rural areas.

Mr. Sekhonya said the enterprise is expected to work in line with wool-shed legal administration issues such as established of a wool-shed committee with farmers, to easily coordinate the wool-shed with district department of agriculture. He further promised deployment of an Agricultural Assistant to the area.

Director of Livestock Services Dr. Keneuoe Lehloenya expressed gratitude for the great work done of a Mosotho Woman who responded to the government need of bringing wool-shed services closer to the rural communities and creating jobs as well, adding that this has not been a hard work of bringing this big idea into practical project.
