Maseru, Feb. 26 — The Minister of Health Mr. Selibe Mochoboroane says a team of Biomedical Engineers has been sent to Motebang Hospital to inspect the conditions of two anaesthetic machines which were reported to be non-functional.

This, he said in the National Assembly on Thursday when was responding to an urgent question of Mrs. Mabafokeng Mpobole regarding the inoperative Theatre Department at Motebang hospital due to non-functional anaesthetic machines including two theatre beds, which were reported to be broken, thus resulted in putting expectant mothers, sick persons, those injured and all who need theatre services in a dilemma.

Mr. Mochoboroane said the team discovered that one machine was broken beyond repair while the other one including one bed will be repaired, clarifying that a new anaesthetic machine and a bed will be bought in the upcoming financial year.

He also indicated that the Ministry is currently checking theatre departments in other government hospitals countrywide to analyse if the equipment is still in good condition to ensure effective delivery of services.

Meanwhile the above-mentioned team was sent to Motebang hospital by the Ministry of Health in partnership with Partners in Health on February 23.
