Africa-Press – Lesotho. Ministry of Tourism, Sports, Art and Culture has come to local artists’ rescue through legislation of tariffs in the music and arts industry.
Minister Motlatsi Maqelepo has announced this during a press conference on Monday morning where he said tariffs have been gazetted in a Society of Authors and Artists (Broadcasting, Communication to the Public, Public Performance, and Tariffs) Notice, 2024.
The Minister noted that the National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP) II has marked art as one of the potential contributors to economic growth hence the need to assist in all ways possible to see the sector grow, not only for the artists but for the nation at large.
Maqelepo said some few years ago, the government of Lesotho through the Ministry of Tourism established the Lesotho Copyright Society of Authors and Artists (LESCOSAA) whose objective was to protect all local artists.
